DELTA function in Google Sheet to test if two numeric values are equal

We can use the DELTA function to test if two numeric values are equal in both Excel & Google Sheet. When the values are equal, DELTA returns 1, else, DELTA returns zero.

=DELTA (num1, [num2])
  • num1 – The first number. It can be directly entered or by cell reference.
  • num2 – [optional] The second number. It can be directly entered or by cell reference.

In the example below, we have used the DELTA function to check the equality of the numeric values ( which can be any number like integer, decimal, positive, negative) between each pair of cells in column A and B.

Like cell A2 is not equal to cell B2 hence the DELTA function returns 0 in cell C2. But cell A3 is equal to cell B3 hence the DELTA function returns 1 in cell C3.

Check the rest of the pairs to verify the result of the DELTA function.

Notes:

  1. If the 2nd number is left blank, DELTA assumes the second no. is equals to zero.
  2. If either value is text, DELTA returns #VALUE error.
